builds things that move.
Software engineer who ships fast, keeps things small, and sweats the details users actually feel. Creative technologist working where code, art and AI tools meet, from generative animation to games made in a week.

Character sheet
I'm an engineer with an artist's habits. I like small, fast tools, interfaces that feel good in the hand, and the moment a prototype turns into something people want to play with.
Day to day that means front-end and full-stack work, performance budgets, and building the boring infrastructure that makes the fun parts possible.
Lately that means AI video pipelines, interactive pieces and games, and figuring out how new tools change what one person can make.
My art lives at quinnstephens.com. This site is the workshop.

Experiments
Work in progress, written up as I go: what I tried, what broke, what I'd do next.
Frame-to-frame animation with Wan 2.2
Building a workflow that turns keyframes into coherent motion, and the dead ends along the way.
SHIPPEDA video game in a week with Claude Code
What it's like to pair with an AI agent on a whole game, from blank repo to playable build.
PLANNEDThis site, but in React
The same page rebuilt with a typical React stack, measured side by side with this one.

It looks like a chatbot. It's actually a text adventure about my career. Type help to begin.
Why this site is so light
This site is plain HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript. No framework, no build step, no web fonts, no package.json. You just downloaded … to see it.
For a personal site, a framework buys very little. There's no app state to manage, no team to coordinate and nothing to hydrate. What it costs is real: more bytes for every visitor, a build pipeline to keep working, and a dependency tree that needs updates long after the site is "done."
To make the comparison concrete, I'm rebuilding this exact page in React with a typical toolchain and measuring both. The numbers land in the table as soon as they're real.
| This site | React version | |
|---|---|---|
| Source files | 8 | measuring soon |
| Build step | none | measuring soon |
| Dependencies | 0 | measuring soon |
| Page weight | … | measuring soon |
| Time to first paint | … | measuring soon |

Let's make something.
I'm looking for engineering and creative technologist roles. If you're building something interesting, I'd like to hear about it.
